April 27 - More artists

These are the other artists I was researching just hadn't posted yet. I'll put them all together in this post. I'm still considering doing Rene Magritte but it was really interesting researching all of these people, the first two I got from searching through a list of the "Top 50 Contemporary Artists" and these two in particular intrigued me.

April 26 - Rene Magritte

In my French class we were doing some research on francophone artists, specifically Rene Magritte who's done a few really famous paintings. I started looking up more of his surrealist work and it's really really interesting to me. I love surrealist art and his is practically defining of the genre. I like that they're mostly composed of simple changes of what could otherwise be pretty typical realistic paintings, he's pushing the boundaries of our perception. I think these would be great to recreate and especially to think up my own interpretation.

April 25 - Jen Stark

I didn't really know where to start looking for artists so I've been checking out some of the links on Blackboard, I was really struck by Jen Stark's pieces. I love super geometric art, it's what I always do when I'm doodling, and to see it so refined and detailed is really compelling. I especially like how these pieces are actually 3D renderings of this geometric art, they are super striking. The pictures themselves are striking enough, to imagine them being in space is really cool. I think it'd be an interesting project to recreate these with drawing.

April 23rd

So again I think about why I pursue art, and a main reason is because of places like I tried to re-create here, the Pyramide du Louvre in Paris, France. I was there last summer and have never been more artistically interested in the world in my life. To see amazing works of art everywhere you go is just indescribable, and the only way I can channel this overwhelming feeling is by trying to capture it through photography. I was trying to do a trace of this picture I took but it got a little too complicated. This is the original.

April 22

Been trying at some more free hand drawing, it definitely comes more naturally to me than Illustrator. Another day of thinking about what makes me pursue art... sometimes I wonder this because after so many years of art school (both high school and college) i find myself completely lacking any new, progressive, innovative things to say like we're always told to do. So sometimes I think I just like art because it gives me a chance to have my own take on what's already there... and I drew this bird because I love love LOVE nature and animals and it's cathartic and meaningful to recreate what I see in my own terms. I drew this from a photo I took as well.

April 21st

So we're supposed to think about what makes us wanna be an artist... I drew this crosshatch of a picture I took. I'm not really pursuing an artistic field as a career, but I have identified as an artist for at least 10 years if not my whole life, and photography is what really compels me to look at the world through art. Something about capturing a reality and making it into it's own landscape is really amazing to me, and I have internalized the photographer's perspective of seeing almost everything through a camera's lens for years now. Hence why I decided to re-draw a photograph.

Edit to add the original photo:

4/20 - Proj 2

Finished project 2, turned out alright I think. I wanted there to be more realism but I'm still struggling with illustrator and also got really sick.

April 19 - Proj 2 Progress

So I decided to go with the idea of making a conflicting work space type thing... like a workspace that has the technology made from natural things, and then I want to make a robot-tech looking plant for the desk. It is so far okay but needs a lot of work...

April 18

Back into illustrator... looking at this idea I had of leaves/trees being used as wind turbines... realized it's too much like my fork tree project and also i think someone gave me that idea during critique.

For this whole project I just keep thinking about Battlestar Galactica... so I drew a cylon raider. Not too bad.

14 April

So I'm getting sick of illustrator because I feel like I don't know how to use it right for drawing, so I'm trying some hand drawn stuff. This was a photo of some buildings I took that I tried drawing, maybe to use them as part of the tree city? Like combining them... they look more like Wii's...

Another robo-animal idea in illustrator... meh... if realized I'd draw the circuitry more cool and not just use a clipping mask

Another free hand, this is a sketch of a concept I have for the next project, doing a high tech city all set in trees with natural ways of creating high tech ideas.

Trying at some free hand drawing, I tried to make a robo dog, it kind of turned into a robo cat-dog-horse hybrid

I was going for a Joshua Tree-esque desert landscape with my Fork Forest

April 4th

This was originally an idea for a daily drawing, and it started getting really complicated so I decided to turn it into my first project doing a forest of fork trees. Here is the initial working on a tree.

April 1st Drawing

Was trying to get out of the digital realm for a second, turns out my hand drawings are even more silly
